Hello, Demons!

Welcome to January's edition of the BTS! I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas, and yesterday, New Year, and is all partied out while reading this. I'll do my best to make it legible during this surely tough period. :P If you're not in the reading mood, come back later - this is the biggest BTS yet.

After three months of the BTS looking different in it's own unique way, this one is back to normal. As I received very little (:@) feedback on the thread for December's BTS, I'll assume you want nothing changing with this - no layout changes, content changes, anything - so I'll carry on as normal! Tally-ho!

Joel will be using some of his confusing skills he learned at Hogwarts University to make the BTS section of the website able to sort out 2009 editions from 2010 editions, and navigable like the folders in your computer. :D

The Christmas theme will be removed from the forums soon, and the default will return to the 'DFTD' theme. DFTD Light (Acerbic) is an alternative lighter theme if you have gotten used to seeing the forums like that. Thanks go out to Joel and Squirrel for all the cool themes.

The 'Let's Talk' section of the BTS will highlight some general plans for 2010.

Vaux has planned a fun competition that will be taking place on the forums within the next week!

DFTD is 4 years old this month so we'll have to celebrate it. No definate plans on what to do but we'll come up with something. If you'd like to suggest anything, please feel free! :D

Heya!

Plenty to say in this section now. Before I start, please be aware that Joel has written a blog, like the one I wrote in September's BTS, all about the history of the clan. It's an interesting read and Joel has put a lot of time into it, so please check it out!

As it's a new year, I'll do a summary of 2009 and a hope for 2010. 2009 was a roller-coaster year - as was any. We started the year with the first ever DFTD BTS (shortly before Jagex discontinued their versions >.<). That BTS came with the three events per month rule which has gone down well, and the late night schedule, which is still going well. Senior Clan Members were then introduced, and some great members have gone on from that rank to join the staff. 2009 also seemed to be the year of Modship, as our CC became spammed with silver galore. We saw the average event attendance keep rising and rising, and that is still going up. I believe the Christmas Event was the highest attended of the year at 41? members - that was a great end to the year. We also had our annual Summer argument (it's like tradition) and I predict another for 2010 :P. As a final mention, it's appropriate to thank Andy for his contributions to the clan as a Leader during 2008 and 2009 when he decided to step down.

2010 looks to be as good a year as ever. We hope to get a small recruitment drive on in January and give our new Mentors some work to do :P. If you think someone would be a good fit for the demons, please get them into the cc (though they are your responsibility until they join us) and we can get talking with them. We look to continue with the same kind of events we have been having as they are all proving popular (though feel free to give us feedback on this), and we are ready, full steam ahead into the new year. :) Ontop of the monthly statistics that Joel provides for us, I figured I'd give you some yearly ones... Did you know that this year:
We have achieved over 137 99's! I say over because not all are recorded - please post in the Goals and Achievements forum if you get a 99. This makes for an average of at least one 99 achieved every three days - wow.
We have attended events over 9000 4500 times! That's alotta Demons, and not even including December's attendance.

Loyalty!

Milestone attenders!
Congratulations to Cam on reaching 150 events!
Congratulations to Beattie on reaching 60 events!
Congratulations to Murray on reaching 60 events!

Top 3 Attenders of December:
#1. Vaux! At 24 events.
#2. Cam! At 19 events.
#2. Mandy! At 19 events.

Huge congratulations to everyone who has their name up there, for a 99 or for a clan award. Remember, if you think someone is deserving of an award; nominate them... They're your awards! All we ask is you consider the act "outstanding" or "loyal". (The images for adding the award to your signatures are found Here). The event attendance was great this month, with at least 12 members getting over 10 events, and a couple over 20. Cam also got an award this month - a D'oh award - for using up all his GP on shards he didn't want to buy. Well done, Cam. :p Lastly, a huge thank you to Julz for providing me with most the events awards information - you are a star!

I hope you have a Happy Birthday to...

Ytimba!
Blackdemon!
Monta!

Real life time! So Christmas is over and you all have plenty of new goodies to keep you occupied IRL. Perhaps you could spend some of that money at the cinema...

This month's 3 to-see films are:

Sherlock Holmes
I don't know if Hollywooding this was the way to go - I'll have to see it to find out.
Avatar
I'm putting this in again (was in Dec's BTS) because I still want to see it. @:
Alvin and The Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel
Any of you under 13? Check this out. :P

This month's 3 Music tracks are:

Killing In The Name - Rage Against The Machine - There was an epic battle for Christmas number #1 this year. X Factor was toppled and RATM hit #1. Heads up, the song has a lot of swearing.
The Climb - Joe McElderry - He was pipped to the post for Christmas number 1 (in Britain).
StarStrukk - 3OH!3 - Another good'un.

Housekeeping! This final article space is designated for the top attender of a previous month, should they wish to write it. The top attender in Month A will have the chance to write an article for Month C. This is so they have a decent amount of time to write it (and don't worry, I shall remind you if I haven't heard from you in a while). This article can contain anything that the top attender wants - it's their chance to speak on the big stage. Leaders are excluded from this privilege, due to Tren regularly being in the top three (and she can speak on here if she wants to anyway).

Congratulations again Mark. You even beat Tren who did 22 events this month. Will anyone surpass you? Tune in next month to find out... :P

Please remember to scroll down further after Mark's article for Joel's blog. Mark has taken full advantage of his article privileges he earnt as a result of his November attendance (including the opportunity to take a dig at me :P), so without further adieu...

First off, let me apologise for such a long article, I just had so much that I wanted to say and I thought I'd use this opportunity that is so rarely fully taken advantage of. :P

Well, this has been an interesting month! With 8 new promotions and Christmas and today being new years day, it's just been non-stop good news. ^_^

Lets start chronologically with, the skilling competition. It was a huge amount of fun sitting at my pc at stupid o'clock in the morning thinking "Must beat Grant. Must beat Grant". And I'd just like to thank Grant for making it so competitive, Julz, Jaya, Kev and everyone else that helped me stay up and Kristi for organising it all.

While I was grinding away at the zmi alter, I came up with a bit of a list of reasons to hate Grant. All in good fun of course. :P

He has 7up
He has vimto
He has pepsi max
He has warm hands
He over took my in exp
He wouldn't go to bed
He has caffine
Burps a lot
Threatened to ban me if he didn't like this

I also discovered that during my time rc'ing due to a handy little program I have, I found out that I did between 60-70k clicks during the entire weekend. At least 50k of those belonged to the runecrafting, so it's a good job I got a new mouse for xmas :P.

A day or two before the xmas event, me and (DFTD) Ollie decided to do Legends quest, so on the Eve of 23rd December at around 7PM (2 hours before the event) and we thought "We'll do this with plenty of time to spare, we can take it easy" and as 8:45 approached, we thought "maybe not, we're only about half way through!" so we stopped the quest and had some fun at the Christmas event. We had a mini party to celebrate our victory over the 5 hour quest (inc. event and Jaya's 99, Grats again!) then we decided to try an achievement diary and as we don't have great skills, we went for the Lumby one. Which took us maybe an hour or two, which makes me the proud owner of a new award on the awards page, and also the explorers ring :D

On the 24th December I was in a very questing mood and decided to attempt rfd, doing all the quests I needed before it and try and finish it by the next day. Unfortunately I didn't manage by goal because I was 18QP short from defeating the bosses in the last part. I did manage to get up to Dragon gloves although I haven't quite managed to finish the quest yet because I still need quite a few quest points, which I plan to get in the new year.

Now on to Christmas and the festive spirit. For me, this year has been alright. I got a new gaming mouse to make gaming a lot more fun and hopefully easier, feels awesome to have the multiple DPI though (google it if you don't know what it means :P) I also got a "powerball" which is suppose to help my weak wrist, suggested by Grant (thanks Grant!) and some other stuff aswel as 160 pounds, from my grandparents (They like to pretty much throw their money away). I hope you all had a great xmas!

And a final note. Have a great new year everyone!!!

The History of Demons From The Deep

Another year has passed, and DFTD is 4 years old this month! Since DFTD is reaching it's 4th Birthday, I thought it would be a great idea to have a Development Blog based on the history of DFTD from the very first day, up until now and hopefully give you all some insight into how Demons From The Deep was created and how fortunate this clan has been to have so many great members over the years.

Let's start at the begining...

This clan was founded by myself, Mr Joel D (aka Joel19891) and Nightfire 22. Myself and Nightfire were best friends in school and it was Nightfire who got me interested in RuneScape in the first place. After playing RuneScape for quite some time (probably around a year) me and Nightfire were in a science class and were bored lol... We started talking about RuneScape (as you do lol) and we had the idea of starting a clan. Didn't have a clue about a name, that came later on in the day, actually walking home from school. We had a few names in our heads but Demons From The Deep is what we decided on.

Back then, me and Nightfire on a few occasions, on the weekends, had what we like to call, a RuneScape Marathon weekend. Basically, Nightfire would bring his computer down to my house and I'd move my computer from my room into my kitchen on the large table, and we'd hook the 2 computers up to the Internet and play RuneScape all weekend. We'd also be on MSN Voice Chat with Tren as well, having a laugh.

So anyway... the one weekend that Nightfire came over mine with his pc that we used to create a message board for the clan forums. We also invited Tren to be a part of the Clan, which was a hard job!

I was very anti-clan at the time. As far as I had experienced, clans were just for PKing and they were always arguing with each other on the RS Forums. "Just come help me set up the forums. You won't really have to be a part of the clan" is what he told me. Yeah right :p

So the clan basically started from there. In school, there were a number of friends who also played RuneScape and they had played RuneScape longer than I had. A few of those also joined the clan. Through those friends a few others were invited to the Clan, and a few you may know, Lord Welsh being one of them, Ged Deschain (Currently the Lead Administrator for TKOE) being another.

So thats how Demons From the Deep was founded. From there we gained more members through friends of friends as well as doing a bit of recruiting ingame.

A few months into the Clan's life, Nightfire had some problems with his Internet which then resulted in him being unavailable online for quite a while. I lead the clan for a bit on my own but then it got a little too much so I asked Tren to assist me in the Leadership of the Clan, that again was a hard job! She agreed under the condition that she was assisting me rather than a full Clan Leader with me.

I managed to find an old video created by Slip Jay when myself and Slip Jay went to the Choas Elemental (Lord Cript, a friend of mine from school also joined us) in March 2006, I thought I'd include it in this Blog in addition to a few screenshots from previous events.

Kalphite Queen Event (June 2006)
DFTD PKing Event (July 2006)
TzHaar Event (July 2006)
King Black Dragon Event (Sept 2006)

On 26th August 2006 I officially stepped down as Clan Leader due to it being too much for me as well as other reasons (Click Here to read the Announcement). At that stage, I was preparing to close down the forums but did not know what would happen to the DFTD Members around at that time.
After that initial announcement, I had some decisions to make, whether to keep the forums open or not, choose new Leaders/Administrators or not etc. Eventually, a decision was made to keep the forums open and resume as normal, Ytimba and Ganners were promoted to Clan Leaders after accepting the invitation and they were assisted by Tren.

I was quite new to the clan Lord Welsh had asked me to join his clan at the time. I hadn't been here long but seemed to be making friends within DFTD very quickly. I seemed to be there for only a short time when Joel asked me first to be a moderator then to be Leader in his place alongside Ytimba (A new good friend) and Tren (An even closer new friend).

I didn't know really what to say it was a big step for me I'd only just come into my first Runescape Clan but after talking with Lord Welsh, I thought that I would go for it and take the place to which I am glad because those were my best ever times with my friends new and old in the clan.

The Clan then resumed as normal and progressed. Ged Deschain who was originally a member of this clan split off and started his own clan, which many of you may know, the Templar Knights of Europe (TKOE), which we later formed a great alliance with.

Our alliance with TKOE lasted for quite some time and our joint events were great fun, but in March 2009, due to the 2 clans going in different directions, TKOE decided that it would be best to end the alliance and continue in our separate ways.

The history to follow from all of this can be seen on the Clan History section of the website so if you wish to read the follow-on, click here.

Over the years, this clan has been lead by a number of different people, each bringing their own personal touch to the clan. Not only have Ytimba and Ganners lead this clan, but the clan has also been lead by TheRooster and SirAndySpeed and as you know it today, Brummyboy! And as anti-clan as Tren was, she's still here today leading the clan and has lead the clan since she first started when I was still Leader.

The intentions of this clan always has been and always will be to have fun with each other in the game and having fun on events in the game. I think many members currently in DFTD and many past members never even thought about joining a clan before and it's great that even though players may not be the clan type of person, a few weeks in DFTD and that will soon change! Below is a quote from Andy explaining how he joined the clan and how he wasnt really a clan type of person.

I joined DFTD in August 2007. I'd never even thought about joining a Clan in my previous year of playing Runescape, to be honest I didn't know such groups existed until I joined Heart Unit in the same Summer. A few friends had been discussing this Clan with a few people I didn't know at the time (Brummy :p ); after a few days I asked what it was all about it seemed interesting and friendly group. I signed up with the intention of looking around and maybe making a few new friends, little did I know how much I'd enjoy it. :D

So here's to the past 4 years and I hope the next 4 years DFTD will continue to grow just as strong! :D
